At Warner Vineyard grapes are hand picked from vines grown in decomposed granite soils which allow the vines to naturally manage their yield to ensure optimum fruit quality. Our fruit is keenly sought by renowned winemakers however we keep the best fruit for our own wines using our knowledge of our vineyard to select the best rows. Our aim is always to produce straight varietals, however in some years we take the opportunity to produce white blends of either Roussanne Marsanne or Marsanne Chardonnay. These wines are designed as ‘alternative’ wines and something where we can experiment and explore different approaches.
| A hard wine to define, that is both cooler climate in nature and structure, but ripe and savoury by styling. Blackberry, sage, star anise, bramble, woodsmoke and spice hold court on the palate. Stalky tannins bring a firm structure, acting as a pathway for savoury flavours. Finishes with some green, herbal edges. Wine Companion 90 Points |
Deep colour with a good tint of purple, holding its youthful appearance well. The bouquet leads with peppery/dusty-stalk whole-bunch ferment aromas, and there are backgroud raspberry, mulberry and pepper nuances. Root-vegetable whole-bunch characters abounding. The tannins are fine, drying and persuasive, but balanced, the finish nicely harmonious and lingering. Really interesting left-field style of bunchy shiraz. I suspect cellaring will be rewarded too.Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 92 Points
